WELCOME TO OKEANOS TOWN
LOCAL INFORMATION
Local Pokémon: Wingull Clamperl Buizel Slowpoke Marill
Okeanos' residential Pokémon are generally very domesticated and comfortable around humans, as all aggressive Pokémon have been driven out of town by the tourism boards. Clamperl, rarely seen in the wild, are harvested here, collected in large man-made basins and kept for their useful pearl-creating abilities. Okeanos' official bird is Wingull.
A vibrant port town, earning capital from large transport ships which service the rest of the island, Okeanos draws in gym leaders, breeders, ranchers, and researchers alike with its variety of shopping options and official -type gym. As a relatively new settlement, many inhabitants of Okeanos are foreigners from other regions, and cultural tension is often high between these newcomers and those who were originally natives of Piscari. Recently settled tourists range all the way from French immigrants to Indonesian newcomers, creating a vibrant and diverse culture that can sometimes boil over with the many cultural differences between new and old residents.

Level 5 Male Onix Named Eclair, 5% Link, Rock Head Ability, Moveset : Harden, Curse, Bind, Volt Tackle

The ship was slowing down, only maybe half a mile away from the shore of a new land, a new adventure. She was nervous, but determined, and happy that she made it this far. She looked at her single pokeball, turning it over a little, thinking about the Pokemon inside. She had not spent much time with him since being gifted the large pokemon. She could not let him out on the ship, his size alone would wreck the ship.

She blinked as she got a text on her phone, slipping her Pokeball back into her overcoat pocket, and pulling out her cell phone from another overcoat pocket. It was a message from her mother, wishing her luck and telling her to be safe in her journey. She replied, informing her she would be docking soon, and arriving in the Ho'ohiki island soon.

As she put away her phone, the ship was sounding off, letting her know they will be docking soon. She picked up her bag, shouldering it across her chest, and headed for the exit planks. There were a good number of people getting off the boat, and she did not push, letting whoever go who felt the need to rush by. She adjusted her stiff hat, making sure it was sturdy on her head, and finally set foot on solid ground of the island.

WILD SAMPLE TRAYS APPEARS!

With business picking back up, restaurants and cafes are jockeying to get to the new arrivals first!

It was a rather brisk fall day, a bit unusual for the port city that generally had milder late year seasons. Clean up from the volcanic eruption were still underway, banks of gray soot visible where the wind currents piled the ash on the beach and against the buildings. The walkways were clear, the workers and volunteers finally able to make headway after the ash stopped falling. Another week or so and nothing but the unseasonably cold winter would be the only evidence of Mount Aduro’s eruption in Okeanos. Some of the other areas of Ho’ohiki had suffered worse than the tourist town. Now that the eruption and ash fall had ceased, the flux of tourists into Okeanos was picking up again--despite the chilly weather. It would likely be the first place to full recovery from the natural disaster.

With the influx of fresh tourist, several of the town’s businesses were jockeying to bring in the new flow of cash. Scattered among the dock--pushed far enough back by dock workers to not block the exiting crowd--were several employees of various restaurants, cafes, and bakeries. They wore their varying uniforms, creating a line of rather colorful wait staff with their trays of samples and coupons. As Yoko moved to leave the dock, the few closest to her would call out. ”Miss, would you like to try a truffle?”, ”Ma’am, a coupon? Buy one coffee, get the next half priced!”, ”Pretty miss in the hat, how about a sample of an h'orderve?”

A bit further away from the ship and past the pushy attendants were a couple more people dressed in button down shirts that tucked into their black slacks and topped with a dark vest. They seemed to be handing out brochures of some kind. Several of Yoko’s existing shipmates were taking the folded papers and looking them other as they walked further down the boardwalk.

As she stepped off of the ship, she pulled her overcoat closer to her, buttoning it up a bit and tying the belt to keep it closed, and intentionally keeping to the far side to avoid being bothered by the sample givers as much as possible, but did take a slight interest in the more sophisticated looking men near the end, and slowed down enough to weave between other ship passengers to grab the brochures, if they had multiple, and held onto them until she could find a place to sit and read them in peace.

She remembered one of the people pushing their coupons mentioned a coffee shop, and began looking around the docks area for it, so she could see about tea perhaps instead. Coffee just wasn't her thing, but something to drink would be nice to look over these brochures with.

WILD CITY SCAPE APPEARS!

Despite the cooler weather, the port town is still plenty busy--much to the relief of the shop owners and entrepreneurs.

The different employees trying to tempt people with their goods recognized the very obvious signs of a woman who wasn’t interested. Unlike some sales people, they easily shifted their attention to others more likely to partake in their offered services. The man Yoko approached had a pale purple shirt under a navy vest and he gave her a smile of perfect professional friendliness. ”Good day, miss. Welcome to Okeanos of Ho’ohiki.” He greeted in a lovely tenor voice as he handed her a few brochures he had spread like a fan so she could see the titles printed along the sides. ”If you need any help, please let me know. Enjoy your stay.” He added with a polite head bow. If she seemed like she was ready to move on, he would turn to the next newcomer.

If she looked a bit closer at her pamphlets, the researcher would discover she had three. One of which appeared to be information on the local cuisine and cafes. A more in depth look would reveal there was a shop called The Three Sister’s Tea Room and Boutique near the Pokemon Center. However, if Yoko opted to look around for a place to settle down first, there were quite a number of restaurants and cafes with their storefronts facing the water. Most had outside seating, but the brisk wind kept most people in the cozy buildings. Most of the people around the young woman were keeping moving, only pausing a moment to check a direction before continuing. The crowd was thinning quickly and it seemed most of them were heading toward the north side of town.

The beach fronts were pretty devoid of tourists, the dedicated fishermen and fisherwoman native to Okeanos were the only humans around there. The Pokemon were still about, the Wingulls drifting through the wind or getting into garbage cans while a few Slowpoke could be glimpsed napping under the docks.

She would take the pamphlets, and begin to walk away without a word, but stop after a moment, and decided to ask him a question after all. "Excuse me, do you know of a local museum that contains fossils, or perhaps a retailer of fossils?" It was a question she did not expect an answer to, but it was worth a shot. After he answered, if he noticed her again, she would thank him with a small, quick bow, and turn to leave, taking a brief moment to look over the brochures, and deciding upon the tea shop listed in one of them.

She would keep a tight hold of the pamphlets, and make her way around the City, asking random pedestrians for directions to the Pokemon Center, believing that would be easier to find than asking for the tea shop itself, and making her way slowly there.

She eventually found it, and sat at a table outside, both waiting for a waitress if they were to come, and giving herself a few moments to collect herself, check every pocket to be sure she had everything still, and finally look at the brochures one at a time for any useful information that they might contain.

WILD TEA SHOP APPEARS!

Three Sister's Tea House and Boutique is a relatively knew establishment, but business has been doing well! Located near the Pokemon Center, it's easy for trainers and new comers to find!

The sharply dressed man returned his polite smile to Yoko when she returned and addressed him. ”We don’t have any museums, however, the aquarium just opened a fossil exhibit!” He gently tugged one of the pamphlets he’d given her out of her pile and placed it on top. ”This features some highlights of Okeanos, including the aquarium.” He flipped it open and pointed to the page dedicated to the relatively new establishment. ”The exhibit just opened.” He leaned in a little, giving her a conspiratory-esque smile. ”I hear they have a Pokemon that was revived from a fossil! Can you believe that?” The guide would return her bow and wish her a pleasant visit.

It didn’t take long for a waitress to whisk out of the tea house after Yoko chose a table. The young woman was wearing a simple black dress over thick purple stockings. Her white apron was trimmed with ruffles and lace and her hair was held up in pigtails by lengths of lacy ribbon. She set down a tea pot warmer and a delicate saucer with it’s upside down tea cup. The porcelain was cream with a elegant pattern of pink flowers and trailing green vines. ”Good day! Welcome to Three Sisters. Have you been here before?” She asked as she handed a menu to Yoko and pulled out her notepad for her order.

Even with the weather being a bit brisk, there were still a number of customers sitting in other tables in the outside area of the tea house. It seemed to be a decently popular spot, at least with the younger woman of Okeanos. The proximity to the Pokemon Center might have something to do with it, but there were hardly the only restaurant to get that idea. These was something wholly unique about the boutique, being the only true tea house. The menu was broken down into loose-leaf teas, herbal teas, and food--both savory bites, traditional tea cakes, and other pastries.

She looked up quickly as the waitress addressed her, and gave a quick shake of her head. "No, I am new to the area. What sort of White Teas do you serve?" She was looking over the menu as she spoke to her, eyes darting from one item to the next, quickly reading what each was, though still listening to any suggestions the waitress had. She would eventually order one of the varieties of white tea they had, with several cubes of sugar.

She began looking over the pamphlets after the waitress left to put in her order. She turned to the one the sharply dressed man pointed out to her, and began pouring over it, reading about the aquarium, and reading about the hinted at pokemon that was revived. It was keeping it secret, and so she decided she would check it out after looking over the other pamphlets for any other interesting information.

Whenever the waitress would arrive with her tea, she would stop her to ask another question, "Excuse me, I am looking for the best place in this region to dig up fossils. Do you have any idea where I might start?" She hoped that maybe she had over heard of some other patrons talking about potential dig sites, though she would still want to see this revived fossil pokemon before heading anywhere else.

WILD TEA SHOP APPEARS!

Three Sister's Tea House and Boutique is a relatively knew establishment, but business has been doing well! Located near the Pokemon Center, it's easy for trainers and new comers to find!

The waitress’s smile brightened when Yoko admitted to being new to Okeanos. ”Well, welcome to Okeanos, and especially welcome to our humble tea shop and boutique! I’m Melaney, and I’ll be taking care of you today.” At the researcher’s inquiry, she pointed to the white tea section of the menu. ”Those are our standard white teas. Our seasonal whites right now are Ginger Peach, Cinnamon-Orange, and Buttescotch.” The woman supplied, nodding and jotting down Yoko’s order when she was ready. ”Do you want a snack with that today? Maybe a scone or sandwich?” Once she knew all that Yoko was interested in ordering, she whisked back off into the tea house.

As the bespeckled woman looked over the brochures she would find one featuring high-lights of Okeanos, the one that detailed shops and restaurants, and the last that going over a couple of hotels and bed and breakfasts. The first had a page dedicated the aquarium, ‘Kyogre’s Grace’, the battle cafe called, ‘After You’, the Okeanos Pokemon Center, the Okeanos Gym, and Professor Coral’s Laboratory in the Light house. Even though it was a cafe, the information provided spoke of a place for Pokemon trainers of all sorts who wanted to improve their skills in battle. Want to test out the Pokemon you just got from Professor Coral? We’re beginner friendly! The section dedicated to the Pokemon Center revealed nothing out of the usual for establishments of their kind; free health care for Pokemon, places to sleep for trainers, ball-swapper available, free video phone access, and free PC access. The piece pertaining to the gym showed that Sharon Waters was the gym leader and that the gym also doubled as a public swimming pool for people and Pokemon. Lastly, there was a section about the Light House of Okeanos where the laboratory of Professor Coral was located. Each month the lab got rehomed Pokemon to give out to new trainers. It was also noted that anyone who visited the lab could receive a Ho’ohiki Pokedex for free and that Professor Coral was one of the leading researchers in studying links between Pokemon and people.

It didn’t take too long before the waitress was back. She placed a single-person teapot on the warmer and a little bowl of sugar cups with a tiny pair of silver tongs. The woman mused about Yoko’s questions as she work on lighting the candle under the warmer. ”Hmm, well, not really. I know they don’t want you digging up holes in the towns and cities. Had a whole mess of trouble last year when someone tried that.” She finally managed to light the candle, despite the insistent breeze. The woman stood back up straight and dropped the lighter in the pocket of her apron. ”That would probably be a better question for Professor Coral, or maybe ask someone at the aquarium? I heard somethin’ ‘bout fossils going on display there. Can I get you anything else, dear?”

She nodded in response, and introduced herself as well, "Thank you, I am Yoko." After hearing the seasonal options, she decided to opt for one of those, "The Ginger Peach tea, please." She briefly considered the snack, and was going to decline, but remembered her companion who she couldn't bring out here, and decided on getting a scone for him for later. "Yes, Do you have a citrus flavored scone? May I get that to go? I will be having my tea here, however." She clarified, trying to be sure she was not confusing the girl, though she knew that was very possible.

When Melaney left, she made mental notes of places to visit after this, starting with that aquarium. She would be sure to inquire there about the revived fossil, including where it was found and how it was revived. After that, she decided it was to the professors lighthouse for a local pokedex upgrade, as well to inquire about her professional opinion on the best place to find fossils, and perhaps any useful tips about the land of Ho'ohiki. After all of that, she would want to give her Onix, Eclair, some time to stretch, and perhaps battle in the Battle Cafe, if it was large enough to house him safely, but if not, she would simply head to the beach instead and let him out there. There was the local gym, but it seemed like it was all water, and she knew Onix normally didn't do well in water, hers was little exception save for his lightning generating horn. That would be a huge advantage, but she was not sure if it would be enough for them to win, especially them being relatively new to each other.

She decided the gym was not a good place for now, unless she also inquired there about fossils, which she might do as well. When Melaney returned, she made her inquiry about fossils, and after listening to her answer, decided for sure on her next course of action. "No, that is all, thank you." She would pour over the brochures for a little more, pouring her cup of tea, and adding several cubes of sugar into her cup, idly stirring for several minutes before she slowly sipped it away, and she repeated this for some time, till there was no more tea in her pot.

Melaney nodded. ”We have a cranberry scone with a citrus glaze that is delicious.” She supplied as she noted it down on her pad for a flourish of her pen. ”Tea for here, scone to go. Got it, honey.” The waitress reassured her with a wink before spinning around and re-entering the tea shop. After her tea was delivered and her question about fossils answered, the girl left Yoko alone, for the most part, to go over her papers. She did check with her now and again just to be sure as she worked on serving others in the outside area.

Further inspection of the section about the Battle Cafe would show that while their rooms were quite spacious, that destructive moves such as Earthquake and Bulldoze were not allowed. However, it didn’t say anything about size limitations. Just when the researcher was almost through with her final cup of tea, Melaney rematerialized. She set a little white box secured with gold ribbon on the table along with the little leather guest check holder, her eyes straying to the array of literature. ”Looks like you have quite the trip planned!” She commented with a nod to the brochures. ”There certainly is a lot to do! Can I get you anything else?” The woman asked as she removed the empty teapot from the warmer.

Yoko shook her head,"No, just directions to the aquarium, if you please." While listening, she grabbed the check holder, and looked it over, nodding at the price, and grabbed out her wallet, placing in several bills, leaving her tip within as well, and handing it to the woman as she finishes with the directions. "You've been most helpful, thank you. I will make a note to visit this cafe again with I return to this city."<p>
She proceeded to follow the directions the woman would give her, slowly walking with the golden bowed treat in her bag. She knew that Eclair would like it, and she would probably give it to him once they got to the battle cafe, after visiting the local Professor. <p>
When she finally got to the Aquarium, she stood in line, and waited at the help desk to inquire about the fossil pokemon. She was looking around at the architecture of the buildings interior while she waited.

KYOGRE'S GRACE AQUARIUM APPEARS!

Kyogre's Grace is a recently opened aquarium and proudly providing rehabilitation for local marine life. They run different, special exhibits throughout the year.

Maleney was happy to give Yoko directions, which turned out to be relatively simple since Kyogre’s Grace was off of the main road that ran parallel with the ocean shore--she would have needed to travel along it most of the way to get to where she was from the docks. At her thanks and promise to return, the waitress flashed her a brilliant smile. ”Thank you, kindly. I look forward to seeing you again. Enjoy the aquarium.” She replied as she cleared away the table. The way to Krogre’s Grace was no more crowded than her walk to Three Sisters had been, so she made decent time.

With the weather cooling off, people were starting to partake in indoor activities more than the outdoor ones, and the aquarium was seeing the increased business over it. It wasn’t as busy as it would come to be in the next several weeks, as the temperatures would drop to unseasonably low. The walls of the entry hall were painted with vibrant images depicting various water Pokemon found in the sea. There were a few large, circular tanks dotted throughout the large room, containing brightly colored coral crawling with young Krabby and Corphish. The place was well-kept and clean, but there was something about the lack of usual wear and tear that indicated the establishment hadn’t been around long yet.

Once she made it to the front of one of the lines, a smiling gentleman with short, blue hair greeted her. ”Greetings! Welcome to Kyogre’s Grace. How many tickets today?”

She had been distracted by the tanks of Krabby and Corphish, but turned quickly as she was addressed, and stepped forward. "One please." She said curtly, getting her wallet out and paying whatever was needed for the ticket. While he was processing her ticket, she began asking her questions, "Can you tell me if there is an individual with information about the fossil pokemon I've heard about? I have several questions I must inquire about." She tried keeping her question as quick, yet informative, as possible. A confusing combination, but she believed it worked just fine.

After receiving any information about the person, fossil, or plaque that may be there, she would thank them, and proceed to enter the aquarium proper, and began looking for a map or guide to help her along her way. She would take her time whether she found a map or guide or not, and observe the various pokemon in the tanks and pools along the way, taking a few snap shots with her camera, reminding herself to send a few to her sister at a later time.

KYOGRE'S GRACE AQUARIUM APPEARS!

Kyogre's Grace is a recently opened aquarium and proudly providing rehabilitation for local marine life. They run different, special exhibits throughout the year.

The man behind the counter nodded in understanding, processing her purchase and exchanging her money for a ticket and change. ”Of course! If you head to the exhibit, there will be a guide there to answer any questions.” He pulled a brochure containing a map of the aquarium from the plastic holder on the desk. The blue-haired man opened to display the building’s layout and pointed to the exhibition hall. ”If you have any inquiries they aren’t prepared to answer, I’m sure they can get one of our researchers for you.” He offered, silently hoping he didn’t just promise something that would be too much for the staff. He mentally shrugged, thinking he would deal with the consequences later if they came. ”Enjoy your visit! I hope you find what you’re looking for!” He added as she headed off and before turning to the next customer.

The path to the fossil display took her past many other tanks and sculptures. The tanks included an array of varying water types from groups of magikarp and tentacool, clusters of shellder and clamperl, to schools of finneon and even a few mantyke. The most efficient way for Yoko to proceed would take her through the glass tunnel, proudly displaying the aquarium’s sharpedos as they swam over and under the guests in the hall. There were numerous children running about, pointing at the different Pokemon or crying out in excited voices when they spotted something they hadn’t seen before.

One of the only areas not plagued with kids was an alcove tucked to the side just after the Sharpedo Tunnel that had glass display boxes containing various rocks--at least, they looked like rocks at first. The walls around that section were painted with some of the extinct, prehistoric Pokemon. An attendant stood, hands folded together as she politely waited for anyone interested in the fossil and fossil fragments they had on display. There were some placards next to each, but the information was limited. If Yoko approached, the woman would give a professional smile. ”Hello! Have you seen our fossil display yet?”

After seeing many wondrous displays of water pokemon in semi-natural habitats, and ignoring the screaming, excited children, she saw the alcove with the prehistoric pokemon, and her face changed to a small smile, the first time today. She approached the woman and the display, and greeted her, while glancing at the displayed fossils. "Hello, I have not yet. I have come here specificly for it, however, and have some inquiries about the fossils here, and the rumored resurrected prehistoric pokemon. First, Is it true?" She would wait with baited breath for a response before asking other questions, but she wanted to know if this was indeed possible.

She had only heard rumors of it passed along by word of mouth, but it was said to only be stories of drunken soldiers tired from long dangerous days on the front lines. Few believed they knew what they saw anymore, and perhaps it was just pokemon native to other regions. Yoko knew this might be the case, but it had inspired her to travel to Ho'ohiki anyway. It was one of the places she had heard had soldiers that were apart of whatever war that utilized the fossil pokemon, though she could not find much info about the war itself. However, even if she could not find any soldiers, seeing a real fossil pokemon -alive- would be more than enough reason to remain on these islands, as well as hunting her own fossils down.

KYOGRE'S GRACE AQUARIUM APPEARS!

Kyogre's Grace is a recently opened aquarium and proudly providing rehabilitation for local marine life. They run different, special exhibits throughout the year.

The attendant’s smile broadened at the eager woman’s first question. ”It is! She’s right over here.” The woman said, the excitement in her voice just a little too forced to be completely genuine, but she was trying. She led the way just out of the alcove and around the corner to a large plane of aquarium glass. There was a long stretch of coral in the center, smaller fish-like Pokemon darting about while a few corphis busily combed through the substrate as they fed. The woman peeked around the enclosure. ”Should be here in a moment. They like to swim laps around the tank.” Sure enough, Yoko didn’t have to wait long until a sizable form glided through the water toward their wall. It was mostly a cloudy gray, but fleshy areas on the fins and neck were steel-blue. They slowed as they approached glass, curiously eying Yoko and the aquarium associate.

”Tirtouga, the Prototurtle Pokemon. He was revived about two months ago, but we wanted to be sure he was eating and in good mental and physical health before introducing him to the public. He’s been doing great!” She offered the information as they both watched the prehistoric Pokemon. ”I’m guessing by the way you speak, you’re a researcher? Are you doing a study on fossils?” The woman asked, thinking that if this visitor’s questions got too complicated she’d have to grab Hans if he wasn’t too busy. The Tirtouga swam in a few small circles, still watching two women before he decided to glide one for another round of his enclosure.

She followed the attendant, her breath a bit shallower than usual, her heart pounding in her chest. She hadn't been this excited since leaving home, but this was also different. Then, she was excited to see the world, and what wonders she could dig up. This time, she was to witness a wonder from an age long past, that honestly very few had probably seen, but perhaps the most exciting thing was that this was just the beginning.

As they rounded the bend and came to the exhibit, she saw many pokemon she recognized, and kept her eyes wide open, searching the tank as best as she could to find it. It did not take long, as the attendant reassured her, when a grey and steel blue creature swam into view. It approached where she and the attendant were, and Yoko found her breath caught in her throat, temporarily forgetting how to breath.

She was truly lost for a few moments, and it wasn't until the pokemon swam off to do circles did she come out of her trance. "F-forgive me, its... Inspiring." She tore her eyes away from the pokemon to focus on the attendant. She cleared her throat a bit before continuing, "I have only just begun my journey, so perhaps a fledgling researcher, but I hope to change that. I came to this region to dig in many of its environments to discover, if I can, what types of pokemon fossils exist here. Might I ask where the fossil for this particular pokemon was found? And are there any recomended areas I should search for other fossils? And how was it revived?" She had regained her composure by the end of her questions, but her eyes kept darting back to the pokemon swimming in circles that had, until a few months ago, had been entirely extinct.
