WELCOME TO CAMPANA TOWN
LOCAL INFORMATION
Local Pokémon: Fletchling Sunkern Cherubi Skiddo Deerling
Treated more like pets than pests, the local wildlife of Campana is extremely docile, especially thanks to their free access to chunks of Eviolite from construction sites. It's common to see "wild" Pokémon adorned with ribbons and bells, a sign of just how close Campana's human residents are to their environment. Campana's official bird is Fletchling.
Quite possibly the most normal, comforting town in the region, Campana Town is a hub for breeders, farmers, and the odd trainer, proudly boasting the official Grass-type gym of the island's league - a point of pride for such a small settlement. Made up of a series of gently rolling hills, Campana's homes are built into the earth, creating a hidden city of tunnels and passageways - and making it a good place to hide away from the pressures of city life. Because their entire infrastructure is built into the earth, mining is hugely important in Campana, with much of their income coming from the accidental excavation of precious metals and gems, including Eviolite. With an almost startlingly mixed population, Campana welcomes outsiders with open arms, and has become a mini hub of diversity, with the original culture being nearly lost by this point in time. Older natives do have a heavy Irish brogue, however, and most of the population is white.

we're gonna be legends

Garth was happy that he had finally managed to get an egg from the nursery. He had been saving up money for a while now and he knew that he was going to take good care of whatever pokemon was inside. He loved pokemon, all kinds of them, and he was also happy that Lisa would have a companion to help her out. Granted it’d be a while till the pokemon inside would be as strong as she was, but in the meantime he was sure that she would manage fine. She had managed fine all this time after all.

Moving along in Campana everything somehow seemed brighter having an egg and all. He was curious as to why the Chansey there had agreed to give him the egg so easily. He had heard that sometimes it could be difficult to obtain an egg from them given that they were often in the need to screen those that did come in to take an egg. He didn't really know what made the pokemon decide who got and egg and who didn't, but he was happy that he was deemed worthy non the less. He smiled at himself, feeling quite a bit more up beat. He looked at the egg in his hands and then at the friend ball in his belt, wondering if he should call Lisa forward, but he decided that he'd let her have some privacy for now. He looked around him and spotted a bar. He could use a drink, but he wasn't sure that it was the appropriate place for an egg...

He hesitated on the entrance but then decided to enter and after monitoring the place he decided it looked safe enough so he walked towards a table that was away from most people and took a sit. There were many people around, but he didn't really mind that day. He was close to the entrance too so if something did happen he would be able to get out of there fast enough, if he felt that he needed to protect the egg from someone or something. He shrugged slightly. He knew that there were those that would hurt pokemon real bad... Alexis had told him the story of what had happened to Snowball and he couldn't get it out of his mind.

Driscoll was a few bottles of beer in, egg in a bag slung over his shoulder and Absinthe sitting patiently behind him, occasionally opening his mouth to receive a beer bottle thrown directly down his gullet. Gulpin were know for eating everything, and Driscoll found few reasons to not indulge his pokemon. The bell around Absinthe’s neck...area tinkled pleasantly as the green pokemon moved to look towards the open door. "Gulp! Gulpin gulpin gulp! Gulpin gulp."Absinthe urged, immediately beginning to pull himself towards Garth’s table. Driscoll tipped back his next beer, with a muttered ‘put it on my tab’. “Absinthe, the last fucking thing I want to do is talk to someone.” He remarked, which made the green pokemon deflate slightly. “Sides, why do you even wanna talk? Ain’t I enough?” Absinthe paused as he made squishy movements towards the stranger.

”Gulp. Gulpin gulp. Gulpin gulp.” He suggested. Driscoll sighed. It was true that his current supply of cash was dwindling low- he needed to pick up another job, after getting booted from his last one. Maybe the nursery would hire him. He had an egg, after all. One he’d found stuck in the water, but an egg nonetheless. With a grunt, he pushed himself up from his barstool and followed the gulpin, still gripping his beer tightly. “Mayhaps they’ll buy enough booze to keep Alec in business for the next five years. Lord knows I’m running out of cash.” Letting Absinthe take the lead, Driscoll found himself leaning against the wall near Garth’s table, eyes narrowed slightly.

“You’re not from Campana. You sure as hell ain’t been here before, either.” He knew almost all the customers of the Skarmory Pub. Probably came with spending most of his time here. Absinthe made his way close to the table, staring up -as much as he could with closed eyes- at Garth. ”Gulp, gulpin! Gulpin gulpin gulp.” He said, pointing at his mouth meaningfully.

Seeing the man approach Garth remained silent. He wasn't going to pick up and leave but he wasn't going to encourage the conversation either. If it happened it did and he wouldn't stop it unless someone decided to become aggressive... To be honest even though he was very happy to have the egg and was also very protective of it there was a small part of him that wished someone tried to pick up a fight with him... It would certain calm his nerves to have a reason to be aggressive.

When the man stated that he wasn't from Campana and that he hadn't been there before he looked at him and blinked for a moment before talking. "Is this 'stating the obvious day' or are you going somewhere with this?" he asked the man.

He did wonder how the man knew, but Campana wasn't the biggest of places and this pub was only smaller so if they had spent enough time around here they'd know. When the Pokémon talked to him he looked towards it and gave it a smile despite not understanding what it told him or not having extended the same curtecy towards the other human. He did like Pokémon more than most people and it didn't take a genius to get that.

Driscoll rearranged the egg in his bag so it was mostly hidden from view. He’d been in Piscari enough times to be slightly paranoid about the safety of the thing, even though safety was a drag and used as an excuse by boring people to never do anything fun in their life. When Garth spoke, Driscoll took another sip of beer before rolling his eyes grandiosely. “Sorry for intruding upon your lovely fuckin’ day. You must have been real busy, sitting here all alone in a bar. Deepest apologies for stopping you from brooding like some vampire anti-hero in a kids’ novel.” Absinthe let out a surprised ‘gulp’, not because he was shocked that Driscoll would say such provocative things - Driscoll was always edging people on, snarking at them until they snapped and threatened to do something awful- but because he nearly missed the beer bottle being tossed his way. Turning just in time to open his mouth to receive the piece of trash, the pokemon gulped it down quickly. “Sorry, Absinthe. Nearly missed you. Guess my aim’s shit tonight.” His aim was always shit. Probably had something to do with all the alcohol.

With that, Driscoll disappeared back to the bar and didn’t return for a few moments. When he came back, he held a shot glass in either hand. Absinthe let out a curious ‘pin?’. Driscoll was not an unkind person, but he was certainly full of sass, and to see him make a gesture of friendship was odd. “Don’t think I’m being kind. I just got two ‘cause I’d figured you were a stick in the mud and would say no, so I could have both.” Absinthe bobbed in place in realization. Another excuse to drink more. Of course, the gulpin couldn’t fault his trainer- Driscoll was the reason that Absinthe had a name and a home and all of that! He turned his attention back towards the man that had given him a smile as Driscoll downed the shot of alcohol. The gulpin continued to gesture towards his mouth futily, even mimicking chewing and swallowing to see if Garth would get the idea. It was bad to beg, but Absinthe was always hungry, so hungry. He guessed he matched Driscoll who was always thirsty, so thirsty.

”Gulpin gulpin gulp, gulpin!” Absinthe said. “He can’t understand you, Absinthe.” Driscoll reminded, which made the gulpin pout as much as he could, feather on his head drooping slightly. ”Gulpin gulp, gulp!” The pokemon asked, to which Driscoll sighed. “We’ve got food at home. You can eat anything. Dunno why you love bar food so much.” Driscoll liked to give Absinthe nice things, but that was hard when he couldn’t hold a steady job and most of his money went to liquer. The gulpin perked up. ”Gulpin!” The pokemon answered. “Most people wouldn’t consider that a good thing, Absinthe.”

Making sure the egg was OK while Driscoll was making sure of the same thing Garth looked back at the man when he spoke and rolled his eyes at his words. If he hoped to get a rise out of him it wasn't anywhere near that simple. He looked at the Pokémon and then back at the man. "Researches would probably have a field day trying to.figure out why you can only speak in clichés and bad references." he replied to him before his attention being turned back at the Pokémon as it ate the cap. Before he could day anything the guy was gone. As he came back his attention was still at the Pokémon as the man spoke. "Or you know you could get your Pokémon something to eat instead." he replied to him. He didn't know anything about the duo but he didn't appreciate that the Pokémon had to beg someone else for food. He got his Skrelp out and signaled at the waitress to bring food for the two Pokémon. "Now you planning to hold onto that forever?" he asked his expression less than subtly challenging.

Lisa looked between the three. Usually Garth made a secret of how he felt, but it wasn't very much of a secret that he didn't seem to like the other person very much. She wondered why and looked at the other Pokémon in question hoping to get an answer as to what was happening.

The words from the other man made Driscoll let out a barking laugh. “You think I’m bad now, wait until I’m tanked.” There was a bit of self-deprecation there for a moment, just enough to tell Driscoll that he wasn’t drunk enough yet to completely bury how much he detested himself. “You ain’t denying it, though. Thinking about something real morally complex, something devastating? Sure, guy like you, I’m sure you’ve got big plans and big ideas. Surprised you would stop in our little pub at all.” Generally, Driscoll didn’t really dislike people. He liked to push buttons, but he prefered partying to fighting. But something about the stranger rubbed him the wrong way, and when Garth suggested he buy Absinthe food instead of hurling alcohol into his own stomach, a sour expression crossed the man’s face. “Absinthe’ll eat anything. He does eat anything. I fuckin’ feed him, I’m not some- some pokemon abuser.” If he fed Absinthe every time the pokemon was looking for food, he’d be eaten out of house and home, he told himself.

Self-consciously, Driscoll readjusted the egg that hung over his back. Maybe he wasn’t the best for Absinthe. Maybe the pokemon would have been happier with someone else picking him out of the garbage. Maybe it was a mistake to scoop up this egg out of the water. He might be damning them. The man shook his head and shut his eyes for a few seconds. No more thinking. Thinking deep thoughts was bad. It was proof that he hadn’t been drinking enough. Absinthe let out a concerned ‘pin’, squirming uncomfortably. He hadn’t meant to get Driscoll in trouble! It was just that the stranger had looked like they had some money to spare, and, well, Absinthe wasn’t ever going to give up the opportunity to get more food. ”Gulp, gulpin- gulpin! Gulpin!” He tried to explain, still squirming. “Don’t need to apologize, Absinthe.” The specialist muttered, still feeling a dull ache at the implication of Garth’s words. Absinthe looked worried.

Driscoll stared at Garth for a few moments before downing the second shot that he’d intended on offering the other man. “I changed my mind. I’m gonna need to be a lot drunker to deal with someone like you.” He set the pair of shot glasses down on the table and stared at Garth, eyes narrowed with dislike. Absinthe was quite surprised to see another poison type, waving a stubby arm in greeting. ”Gulp, gulpin! Gulpin- gulp, gulpin, gulpin gulpin, gulpin ‘gulp’ gulpin!” He explained at length as Driscoll’s hand clenched into a fist. “You feed a poochyena every time they beg for scraps? Absinthe don’t know what’s good for him- he overeats, cause he’s all stomach.”

Absinthe’s feather stood up straight. ”Gulp...gulpin gulpin. Gulpin, gulp.” They weren’t going to take him away from Driscoll, right? Driscoll glanced towards Absinthe, smiling softly. “Aw, shit, I like you too, Absinthe.”

we're gonna be legends

Hearing his barking laugh Garth felt the compulsive need to make sure that the egg was alright. Maybe it had been a bad idea to come in here after all. All he had wanted was some peace and quiet and instead he had ended up with this, whatever this was anyway, in his hands and he wasn't happy with it. He wished Jade was here. She had a way with people that was well beyond him. And a way to make him see things clearly the few times that something or someone would make him lose his patience. Something that happened more since he lost her, even though he was usually able to contain himself by thinking what she would had told him to do. "I am not denying or confirming anything. I don't recall owing you an explanation. If you don't like it there are empty tables, it'd spare me the headache." He took a deep breath trying to make himself relax.

As the other man talked his expression sat on a neutralish and mildly disaproving expression. He didn't fail to notice the sour expression that appeared in the man's face, and he had to admit that he did draw some satisfaction from it. Which he kinda felt like a kick in the gut. He wasn't like this with people. He felt this way for rangers or most of them anyway, but not for civilians...

Lisa was worried. She had never seen Garth like this before and frankly she wasn't happy with it. Hearing the other pokemon talk she nodded. Skrelp skrelp skre skre, skrelo skre relp. Skrelp Skrelp Skre re.

I am not some kind of pokemon abuser he said. Garth looked between the pokemon and the human and when Driscoll's pokemon spoke again Lisa looked at Garth all serious and hit him slightly with her fin wanting to reprimand him. The man looked at his pokemon surprised. "What?" he asked her and even though he couldn't understand what she was saying he could understand that you know what expression on her.

"skrelp skrelp? skrelp skrelp skrelp. Skre skrelp."

"Well if i can i don't see why not. Maybe less in wild pokemon cause they need to be able to survive on their own, but still help if they need help. It's part of the job description." technically it was part of the job description when he was still loyal to the rangers, but his love for pokemon, unlike his loyalties, hadn't changed so there was that. It was more part of the desription of being human he figured, rather than anything... He shook his head.

“I ain’t expecting an answer, Ho’oh’s sake. Can’t you tell when someone’s trying to piss you off? You that dense, or just got dead emotions? Guess that must be useful for an asshole.” Driscoll grumbled, softly patting the egg slung over his back. “You’re a bad influence for this kid, you know. Can’t imagine what your poor egg is gonna mani- manif- turn into.” He struggled with a word for a split second before ditching it entirely, enjoying the fuzzy feeling that the two shots had given him, the sort of fuzziness that didn’t come from beer alone. Still, while he might have otherwise tumbled back to the bar for another drink, he managed to resist, guilt still welling up in his chest at the thought of how many meals Absinthe could have had if he hadn’t drank them away. Driscoll didn’t make any attempt to leave, though. He thrived on sassing people, being sarcastic as he could manage in his usual inebriated state.

Absinthe, however, relaxed when Lisa spoke. ”Gulp, gulpin! Gulpin gulp- gulpin, gulpin...gulpin. Gulpin gulp.” Driscoll was too occupied glaring at Garth to fully catch what Absinthe whispered to Lisa, fluttering his little arms in excitement. He turned his attention to Driscoll when Lisa asked him to explain Garth’s intentions. Clearing his throat, Absinthe slipped his way over towards Driscoll’s feet, settling down on them and staring up at him while his feather shot straight up. ”Gulp, gulpin, gulp, pin. Gulpin! Gulpin, gulp-” Driscoll snorted.

“He doesn’t mean to be a jackass? Well, he certainly does a damn good job of it.” The poison specialist muttered, sizing the other man up and wondering what would happen if it came to blows. Not that Driscoll wanted that. He was snarky, but he rarely fought, taking more joy from getting a rise out of someone than physically beating them down. Absinthe would have rolled his eyes, were they not closed. ”Gulpin gulpin gulp.” Absinthe pointed out, at which point Driscoll deflated significantly. “Yeah, I guess so- but, but I ain’t about to forgive someone who just insin- suggested I was hurting you. I ain’t ever done nothing to hurt you, okay? I’d rather hurt myself.” Driscoll’s words got more and more impassioned.

Garth’s reply had him snorting again. “You feed a poochyena endlessly, all you’re gonna have is one fat, unhappy pokemon. Pokemon, young ones, at least, don’t know what’s good for ‘em. Absinthe ain’t that old. Sides, he’s almost all stomach. I don’t want him overeatin’ and pukin’ everywhere. Seen that before, and it ain’t pleasant.” His speech seemed to degrade slightly as the alcohol hit the bottom of his stomach and spread through his blood.

we're gonna be legends

As the man spoke again Garth's annoyance with him wasn't secret. It started with him just wanting the man go away and it turned to anger. Two could play in the annoying game though. "I suppose you're the expert in bad influence so I'll take your word for it and wonder what you'd do and do the opposite when in doubt." Lisa looked between them annoyed with both. "skrelp skrelp skrelp. Skre skrelp?" she said saying the first part towards Driscoll and the later toward Garth.

Looking at the other Pokémon she smiled at him "skrelp skrelp skrelp skrelp skrelp. Skre skrelp."

When the Pokémon spoke towards Driscoll Garth looked questioningly and would probably had taken the opportunity to get out of there if Lisa didn't smack him and made him listen to what Driscoll was saying. He rose an eyebrow at the man. Well that was definitely interesting...

His subsequent words about pochyenas were lost to Garth as cracking sounds started coming from the egg. He took it in his arms and when the bunnelby came out and looked around he gave it a warm smile completely uncaring about what Driscoll was saying, though he'd still keep an eye on him. "Hey you." he told the Pokémon his express far softer than what it had been that far. The bunnelby looked around him and sniffed the air before curling up on Garth's lap and trying to get used to all the smells and things to see around here. The man patted the Pokémon and then turned back at Driscoll.

Driscoll felt the egg weigh heavily on his back, and he shifted it, like the weight wasn’t psychological and instead physical. “You bet your ass I am. You ain’t having fun, you ain’t living. What use is life if you’re not using it to your fullest? No use, I tell you. Might as well die if you’re not partying.” He said, with the sort of sincerity that drunks didn’t often have. Absinthe let out a sighing ‘piiin’. ”Gulpin gulp. Gulpin. Gulpin gul gulpin.” The gulpin told Lisa, though he did seem a little affronted by her telling Driscoll to shut up. ”Gulp, gulpin...gulpin gulp.” Absinthe said, scooting closer towards Driscoll. He didn’t want to start a fight with Lisa, not because he didn’t necessarily like fights (he liked them if he could win and look tough and proud and impressive, or if it meant Driscoll would hug and cuddle him afterwards), but because he was certain he couldn’t win this one.

”...Gulpin gulp, gulpin pin gulp.” Still, that didn’t stop the gulpin from looking very nervous. Driscoll got into plenty of fights, and none of them were pleasant. Before long, the gulpin was almost trying to ooze up Driscoll’s leg, putting his hands on the leg of his pants and staring up at Driscoll. After a minute, the human sighed before leaning down to scoop the pokemon up. “Heavy bastard.” He scolded half-heartedly, but a lopsided smile was on his face as the gulpin snuggled up to his chest. The cracking of the egg finally stole his attention away from Absinthe, and the gulpin quickly stretched forward, trying to get a look at the hatching egg. Almost like he’d entirely forgotten the debacle from before, Absinthe waved his arms about. ”Gulpin gulp, gulpin! Gulpin gup!”

At first, Driscoll was wary of Garth’s interactions with the bunnelby. After a moment, he sighed. “Guess you’re not so bad if you’re kind to pokemon. Hate people, though, I’m guessin’. Or maybe you just hate dicks like me.” The man grinned, kicking a seat away from the table so he could sit down. “Shit, alright. Let’s pretend I wasn’t an asshole, and let’s pretend you weren’t a dick, alright?” The man cleared his throat and leaned back. “Name’s Driscoll Star.”

we're gonna be legends

Garth's expression remained neutral as the man spoke. Might as well die... he did have to work hard to keep the neutral exression through that. Between Jade's death and finding a new purpose with Boss it was what he thought most of the day with breaks for thinking of venfeance... wondering what would had been if he had died instead of her... Wishing that he had, thinking she was far more valuable to the world than what he was. Some of the darkness of those memories passed into his expression despite his efforts, and he felt Lisa patting him gently. She didn't like it when Garth thought dark thoughts and she could always tell when he did even when his expression didn't change.

When the other pokemon mentioned that Driscoll didn't place much value into his own life and that he had rescued them from the trash she looked at the man with a sad expression. "skrelp skrelp skre skrelp skre." she said. When the other pokemon mentioned that Garth hadn't been very forthcoming with kindness either she opened her mouth to protest, but then she realised that she would be kidding herself and the other pokemon and she nodded instead. "skrelp skrelp skrelp. Skre skrelp." the pokemon shrugged a bit and decided she wouldn't say anything more for the time being.

Lisa smiled a bit seeing the pokemon and Driscoll interact and then with the pokemon's reaction to the egg hatching. It would seem that the pokemon inside the egg couldn't had picked a better time to hatch and she patted the pokemon happily. "Skrelp!!" she told the bunnelby and exchanged a smile with Garth. The bunnelby itself looked around sleepishly and smiled at everyone.

Hearing Driscoll's words Garth felt a crucked smile finding his way into his lips and he couldn't help but laughing when he suggested pretending that Driscoll hadn't been an asshole and that he hadn't been a dick. Lisa smiled at that. "You got it. It's Garth. Garth Scott, pleased to meet you..." he said. "Yeah that would had made a more civil opening sentence... Not as much of an interesting one though." he said patting Lisa.

The bunnelby looked up as a lady came up to their table bringing the food. "Bunne bunnelby?" he asked, looking at the plate with interest.

Absinthe felt some sort of kinship with Lisa, the way that she spoke about her trainer. Perhaps this Garth didn’t care for himself very well either? Either way, Absinthe slowly nodded as much as something that was almost entirely stomach could nod, which was more of just a rapid inhale and exhale that jiggled his body. ”Gulpin...gulp. Gulpin. Gulpin. Gul. Pin. Gulpin. Gulpin, gulp.” The pokemon said, voice low so Driscoll wouldn’t hear him. Quickly, however, his attention was back on the bunnelby, arms waving in the air. Driscoll quickly plopped him in his lap once he was seated, and the gulpin leaned forward so he could stare at the bunnelby. ”Gulpin! Gulpin! Gulpin pin!” He was glad for the hatching of the pokemon- it had given Driscoll just enough pause that he hadn’t harassed Garth farther.

Shifting so the egg was on the ground beside him instead of over his back, Driscoll gave a cheeky grin. “Sure as shit sounds nicer than telling me off, I gotta say. Not that I blame you. I ain’t the most charis- charmin’ person out there. Not always, at least. Sometimes I am.” He said with false bravado that was becoming less false by the moment as he became drunker and drunker. “‘D offer to buy you a drink, but I dunno if I should have anymore.” The sentence was filled with sadness as Driscoll stared longingly at the bar. “Gotta stay sober ‘nough to get home, after all.” Thankfully, it wasn’t a very long walk back to his home in the ground. “So, shit, lemme ask- what’re you doin’ in our humble town? Most people skip right by us on their way to Caecus. Even fewer stop in the ‘ol Skarmory.” Wishing desperately he had a drink in his hands, Driscoll gently sunk one hand into Absinthe’s squishy flesh in an effort to pet him on the head.

“You get that egg from the nursery here? That what brought you to us?” Now he was looking at Garth in an appraising manner, as sharp a look as someone dulled by alcohol could give. “Chansey usually’s got a pretty good idea of people. Must’ve trusted you if she gave you an egg. Y’know that no one who’s a poacher ever gets a fuckin’ egg there? Dunno how she knows, but she knows.” He tapped the side of his forehead. “You tried the booze here yet? Ain’t a big place, but Alec knows his liquor.”

we're gonna be legends

When Garth had taken her out of her pokeball she hadn't figured that she would come to meet a pokemon that she was able to understand so well. Granted she didn't figure her life to be a simple one, but it was a happy one. She loved Garth and she knew that if he had to chose between getting hurt himself and letting someone hurt her or another member of the team he'd opt to get hurt himself any day of the week and twice on Sunday. She didn't remember where she had heard that expression, but it was one of her favorite ones. When the pokemon mentioned that he had stopped a fight the bunnelby looked at him curious. "Bunne> bunnelby?" he asked the pokemon.

Lisa smiled at the small normal type bunny. He looked so cute. As the other man spoke Garth nodded. "Well... I have my un-charming moments myself... But don't tell anyone they might be shocked to hear that." he said, attempting a joke. Lisa smiled wide hearing what Garth said. It wasn't particularly funny, or particularly true she thought cause this wasn't how he usually was, but it was an attempt to make humor which made her happy. As Drisoll went on about the drinks Garth offered him an approving smile. "You don't seem so bad yourself you know, prince charming." he told him. He wondered if he should offer to buy drinks, but last of him getting anything had led to a disaster, plus he was trying to remain sober so he didn't think it wise to enable the opposite direction.

As the man asked him about what had brought him here he decided to be honest. After all he wasn't here on work, so... He did file away the information about poahers though. That would be something useful to know for later. "Really she doesn't? Wow that's amazing. I've heard about her being picky but never figured such insight... That's trully marvelous. Most pokemon are though one way or another. As for me I'm here party for the nursery, from where I indeed got the egg, and your gym. I've heard a lot about it and I figured I'd give it a go. Couldn't hurt, you know." he said. "I take it you're from here? Is your egg from the nursery too?" he asked.

When he noticed the food he smiled. "You know... it IS here now so it'd be a waste to not eat it right?" he said as Lisa turned to the bunny. "Srelp skre skre."

Absinthe paused. ”Gulp, gulpin gulp...gulp, gulpin. Gulpin gulpin gulp!” He was incredibly relieved that it hadn’t come to blows. He assumed Lisa was as well. Driscoll smiled lopsidedly at Garth’s remarks. “Never would have guessed it. You seem like a regular fuckin’ Casanova to me.” The barbs were softer now, a more familiar tone in Driscoll’s voice now that he knew that Garth wasn’t entirely bad. He still looked a little sore over their initial altercation, but Driscoll verbally harassed people so often that he’d be out of a lot of friends if he held initial bad impressions against people. The smile of approval had him hesitating. “Not much of a drinker? That’sa shame. Ain’t nothing good in life ever come about by just wallowing around in our own fuckin’ misery.” Driscoll said, assuming that everyone was as filled with self-doubt and loathing when they weren’t drinking.

He let out a barking laugh. “‘Bout as far away from a prince as you can get, but I appreciate the compliment. Don’t think I’m your type, though. You probably’r looking for a nice, plain but pretty girl, sort who’s a little naive in the ways of the world. Sweet, kind, all that shit.” Not that he thought Garth was genuinely flirting with him. Of course, the possibility of Driscoll denying flirtations advances from anyone above the age of eighteen was low. “You’re probably all about loyalty. Ain’t my thing. Can’t imagine tying myself down to one person. Course, I’m loyal to North, but family loyalties different kind of thing, you know? Family already knows the nasty shit ‘bout you. Ain’t no way around it.” He screwed up his face, shaking his head. “Don’t wanna get in relationships cause that means feelings, you know?” Gross, feelings. He couldn’t imagine sharing his thoughts and insecurities with anyone, not even Absinthe.

“Campana born and raised.” Driscoll glanced towards the egg, reaching down to pat it. “This guy? Nah, found ‘em in a ditch filled with rain. Dunno how they got there, but wasn’t no pokemon ‘round to take responsibility for ‘em so I snagged ‘em. Dunno what I’m gonna do if they’re not a poison-type. Still, Absinthe says they are and I trust him.” The gulpin bobbed his head in confidence. ”Gulpin gulp! Gulpin, gulp!” He said, fwapping one hand on the table confidently. When Garth mentioned the food, Absinthe froze entirely before, with an impressive hop for such a chubby little ball of skin and stomach, flopped up onto the table. “Absinthe! Ho’oh’s sake, warn me next time!” Driscoll scolded. Absinthe paid him little attention, instead trying to very quickly shove some of the food in his mouth. Driscoll rolled his eyes.

“C’mon, you hog. There’s a baby here who needs to eat.” With that, Absinthe all but rolled back into Driscoll’s lap, letting out a content burp.

we're gonna be legends

The bunnelby nodded as the other pokemon spoke, though he wasn't quite sure what polite meant, though by the context he assumed that it meant that they weren't very nice. Lisa was indeed as relieved as her fellow poison type was that it hadn't come to blows. Garth would be hurt and she didn't like that idea any day, even less so given that their egg had hatched and therefore they'd have to care for a newly hatched bunnelby while at the same time caring for a hurt Garth. That wouldn't had ended well she thought. Besides if she knew Garth at all he'd eventually know he didn't behave wel and he'd feel bad if he damaged Driscoll... not to mention the possibility that they'd no longer be welcome in Campana if they started creating problems in the city at hello.

Driscoll wasn't entirely wrong about the self loathing part. He blamed the rangers for what had happened to Jade but he blamed himself just as much. Only things that were keeping him from turning against himself were his pokemon and revenge. It was his own poison, one that was eating him from the inside even though he wasn't able to detect it and he probably never would if something didn't change. "I don't like drinking very much to be honest with you. Not with my line of work anyway. It wouldn't be beneficial for anyone." he didn't want to drink to forget. He needed to remember, he needed the pain of loss. Cause if he didn't have that and his purpose he'd start thinking of what he was doing. In a way by not drinking much, by not trying to forget he brought himself in the state that many people drank to get into.

Hearing Driscoll's barking laugh brought him back to right here and right now and he smirked a bit at what he said, though it didn't reach his eyes. "I could have that by staying home. Not my kind of life. Not anymore that is." it hadn't been since Jade anyway. She had changed him since the day he met her. He had awoken in him things that he didn't even know he had inside. "I do have to compliment you on that though. You've described perfect the kinda gal I'd be with if I stayed in Agri." probably maybe... most likely. He wasn't looking for that kind of girl though. He wasn't looking for a kind of guy or a kind or girl... he had his kind of girl and he lost her. As Driscoll went on Garth nodded. "Yeah, you've got that part right. Family and loyalty are my things indeed. It never tied me down though. More like kept me going." Kept me going even at the face of loss. it was his loyalty in the goal of avenging Jade that kept him going, a purpose he had thanks to Boss... When he achieved that... he didn't really know what he'd do once he achieved that. He didn't know if he would be able to keep going after that. "Who's North? Your brother or something?" he asked.

As the man explained how he was indeed a local and how he had found the egg Garth smiled at him a true smile that did reach his eyes, lighting up his face. He didn't give many of those nowadays. "Well then the pokemon was luky that you guys were there. I can't imagine how it'd had gotten out of there on it's own..." he said, meaning that it wouldn't had. "I take it you specialise in poison pokemon then?" he asked. So she had and there was something to be said about the fact that the fist local he spoke to without wanting something, like challenging the gym, was a poison specialist. Lisa frowned slightly. A poison specialist from Campana was bound to make Garth think sad thoughts. "That's facinating, how pokemon can know such things, isn't it?" he asked.

When the pokemon jumped and started eating both Garth and the pokemon looked at him smiling. That was one impressive jump. When he rolled back at Driscoll's lap the bunnelby went closer to the food and sniffed it once again before eating a bit of it and making a content sound, and gesturing towards it trying to say it was good while he munched on some of it. Lisa got a small piece too, smiling at her two new friends.
