WELCOME TO UBERRIME CITY
LOCAL INFORMATION
Local Pokémon: Pidove Pichu Elekid Helioptile Pawniard
With cities come pests, and Uberrime has its fair share of annoyingly domesticated Pokémon. Pichu and Elekid form strange social packs, working together to rifle through the bits and pieces left outside of diners and cafes. Helioptile, originally introduced to feed on the massive Pichu infestation, are now just as big of a nuisance, sunning themselves on the stone sidewalks and occasionally snacking on the overweight Pidove that flock to Uberrime. Pawniard trained by the local branch of Rangers work to keep crime - at least, the obvious kind - to a minimum. Uberrime's official bird is Pidove.
The very definition of opulence, Uberrime is packed to the brim with shining metal buildings, bustling shopping centers, and the latest in technology from researchers around the island - and even from other regions. Far and away the most advanced city for miles, Uberrime boasts a multi-story gym, highlighting Steel and Electric-type Pokémon, along with an alternative route through which those less inclined to fight can answer puzzling questions to advance. Those with scientific interests will be right at home, especially researchers, who will no doubt find work in any field they please. Breeders, however, may find themselves up a proverbial stream without a proverbial paddle, as Uberrime's population is inundated with the latest in pure blooded oddities and attractive award-winning Pokémon. Oddly, Uberrime seems to have no discernible culture, nor has it ever...

Ichigo counted the omamori in her hands idly as she walked, internally assigning each charm to its intended recipient. Each one had been purchased from a local shrine; it had been tradition in her family to observe hatsumode ever since she was a child, and even though Ichiro didn’t concern himself with the it anymore, Ichigo still liked to visit and buy some good luck charms. She passed each charm from her right to her left hand in order, mentally counting off which belonged to who. The blue one for Ichiro, purple for her mother, white and gold for her step-father, several yellow ones for her coworkers, and of course; red and gold for Sirhan. Scattered through the pile were a few more of various colours, just in case she came across some poor sod who needed a little luck in their life.

As usual, Nioi trailed along beside Ichigo, trotting along quite happily with her brand new tartan christmas scarf wrapped around her neck. It had been one of the many Ichigo had given her for Christmas - even though Nioi didn’t quite understand the concept of Christmas - it even had her name stitched on one end in looping white cursive.

Their path home skirted the edges of a park where trainers tended to gather, and as they approached Nioi could hear the sounds of battles in the distance. They sounded like so much fun, she wished she could join in! With that thought in mind, she yipped excitedly to get her trainer’s attention, planting her rear on the snowy sidewalk and staring up at her with a big doggy grin, tongue lolling out to one side.

Ichigo raised an eyebrow. “Sup, baby girl?” as if on cue, Ichigo tilted her head, the sounds of battle reaching her own ears now. Her raised eyebrow only climbed higher as she gave Nioi a considering look. “Ye wanna go watch the battles, baby girl?” she asked, receiving a sharp, high-pitched bark in return. Okay, so that was a no then. She scratched at her a chin a little, where the hideous scarf Ichiro had gifted her the other day was beginning to make her itch, and considered what else it could be.

“Ye wanna be in a battle?” she asked. This time, Nioi’s bark was normal, not the frustrated, high-pitched noise she’d made before. Ichigo grinned. Alrighty then! She had nothing better to do that afternoon, and Nioi could always use a bit of practice, so why not? She jerked her thumb in the direction of the park and motioned for Nioi to follow her.

“C’mon den baby girl, let's go kick some ass.”

The flurry of excited barking followed them the entire way to the park, announcing Nioi’s arrival in a particularly spectacular way. She jumped and rolled around in the snow out of excitement, kicking up snow and ice all over the place, earning a delighted smile from her trainer, even though she was likely annoying everybody else in the vicinity.

Kan slid through the snow, one fore-paw on the ground for balance after he was slammed with a brutal hit. The Riolu was panting, his breaths coming out in white puffs in the chilled air. That last attack hurt, but not as much as the one before it and the injuries were starting to add up. He wasn't sure what his trainer was waiting for, but he trust Jago to make the right calls. The teenager's blue-gray eyes watched the bout carefully, paying particular attention to his Pokemon's opponent, a Sandslash. The ground type gloated over his successful hit and a glance up to his trainer showed they were doing the same. The fighter had thought this battle would be on pretty even ground, he had no way of knowing the ace up the other trainer's sleeve. "Hit him back fast, Kan." The teen instructed, getting a nod from his Pokemon before he launched into a quick attack, scattering snow everywhere.

"That again? This is getting boring. Slasher, finish it with aerial ace." The other trained drawled, already preparing to walk off the battle area. Jago heard the barking commotion, but deemed it not important enough to take his attention from the battle. They had to pull this off or they would have to forfeit--and he refused to give up to that pompous ass. By the determined look on the Riolu's face, he agreed with his trainer. The fighting type's quick attack hit, but without much to show for it. He threw himself backwards to give himself space and prepare for the incoming flying attack. The other guy half expected Jago to order an dodge, but the lavender-haired teen simply folded his arms over his chest and waited. Just as the ground type made contact for Kan, he called out. "Counter!"

The canine grinned toothily, even as the Sandslash slammed into him and they both flew backward. The fighting type grabbed a hold of the mouse Pokemon and planted his feet into the snow. The pair slid a yard or so before the Riolu pivoted, spinning the Sandslash around with the momentum the ground type had built up. Kan released his opponent, sending them careening straight into the boundary wall of their battle area. Once the snow settled from the impact, it became clear the Sandslash would not getting up without assistance. The fighting type was panting, but he was still standing. The other trainer gaped, mouth flapping before running over to his Pokemon, who stirred weakly. Jago flashes a friendly smile. "Thanks so much for the battle. You guys have a Merry Christmas." He didn't usually get snarky, but the guy had ticked him off before they'd even started the fight.

When Kan got back to his trainer, Jago handed the Pokemon their green scarf with white snowflakes embroidered on it. The Riolu took it and wrapped it around his neck. Now that his battle was over, he turned to look for the source of the excited barking, not because it bothered him, but simply because he was one to know what was going on around him. A Growlithe was running and playing in the snow and he smiled at the Pokemon having a good time. Some people didn't let their Pokemon be Pokemon enough, but that Growlithe's trainer seemed to have issues with it. Thinking about the fire type's human partner has Jago skimming for them, trying to place a person with him. The obvious choice was the redheaded girl following the pup as they frolicked. His eyes lingered on her, appreciating the contrast of her bright crimson hair with the white snow.

Ichigo couldn’t help but laugh delightedly at Nioi’s antics as she bounded through the deep snow, tail wagging excitedly as she inspected the pattern her tracks had left behind in the snow. She looked up at her trainer and barked, high-pitched and excited, before taking off again to barrel through another pile of the icy white fluff, sending it flying - though luckily, it didn’t hit any nearby bystanders.

However, that didn’t stop a gruff voice from calling out, “Oi, shut that fucking dog up! People are trying to concentrate here!”

Ichigo immediately bristled, shooting a dark glare in the man’s direction. He was a trainer, from the looks of it, and he’d apparently just lost his battle if his stern expression and the Sandslash at his feet was any indication. The poor ground type looked thoroughly beaten, and moments later it was recalled into it’s pokeball in a flash of red light. Ichigo had to resist the urge to flip the guy the bird - she was still a ranger after all, even when she was technically off-duty - and instead she snarled. “It’s a public fuckin’ park, jackoff, she can play all she fuckin’ wants to! If you can’t focus with a bit of barking den ye obviously ain’t as top shit as ye think ye are!”

“Who the fuck do you think you are, bitch?!” came the man’s growled response, and Ichigo narrowed her eyes at him as he squared his shoulders and began to approach. Nioi, who had stopped playing when the man had first voiced his displeasure, was eyeing the man warily. She backed down with a small whine as he moved closer and backed up, until her tail was brushing against her trainer’s legs. When the man continued his approach she moved behind Ichigo altogether, glancing up at her with a nervous expression. This man was large, and scary, and he looked like he wanted to kick her!

Ichigo, for her part, looked completely relaxed; her posture didn’t give anything away to those without a trained eye. But her muscles were tense, and her fingers were damn near twitching with the urge to curl into fists. Instead she laid a gentle hand atop Nioi’s head in a reassuring gesture, trying to calm the pup. She shot the man a bland look.

“Dis what ye gonna do mate? Ye gonna hit a stranger over some noise? The fuck is wrong wit’ ye?” This was not how she’d been expecting this day to go, that was for sure. She almost wanted to hit the guy just to prove a point - and out of sheer spite, because Nioi had been having a great day until this asshole had gone and stuck his nose in - but that would just make her into the bad guy here, wouldn’t it? So she stayed put, and acted as though she didn’t have a care in the world even as this mountain of a man was still striding over to her, coming to a stop only a short distance away. He was close enough that she almost had to tilt her head up to see his face, but she only allowed her eyes to roll upwards, keeping his gaze as he towered over her in a way that was supposed to be menacing.

Supposed to be, at least. But it just served to give Ichigo a lot of places to aim if he chose to become violent first. Internally, she debated whether she should hit him in the balls or the kidneys first.

“Ye wantin’ to get yer ass kicked by a girl half yer size, mate? Cuz yer gunnin’ fer dat outcome the way yer goin’,” she said, looking bored. She played with the threads of her ugly scarf, looking completely bored with this entire situation. This only seemed to rile the guy up more, his face was turning an interesting shade of red and he looked like steam was about to come shooting out of his ears.

Jago was still admiring the Growlithe's partner, an amused look at the festive scarf that didn't seem to go with her aesthetic, when the guy he'd just humiliated yelled at her as he was passing. His lavender brows arched, knowing immediately just by observing the redheaded female that snapping at her was a bad idea--as the son and brother to two strong women, who recognized them when he saw them. Sure enough, she was giving back what he gave. Instead of being smart and walking off, the douche bag turned and stalked toward her. Jago's instinct to jump to her defense was strong, but his survival instinct was higher. He could see the tension of her body and the twitching of her slender, claw-tipped nails. Her posture didn't change, however, making him believe that while she was fighter, she was likely a brawling or used something akin to kick boxing versus a formal martial arts form, but he could be wrong. The teenager heard a growl come from his companion, making him rest a hand on the canine's shoulder. "I know, Kan." He was 100% sure of the redhead's ability to defend herself and quiet possibly kick the guy's ass, but he didn't like how frightened the Growlithe had become.

Shoving his hand in his pockets, he moved to the half-wall bordering the arena with the Riolu at his side. One gloved hand on the wall, he vaulted easily over it. This woman was preparing for a fight, but he didn't think it would make her companion feel much safer. "Hey! Just because you lost isn't any reason to go picking fights. Your defeat was due to your overconfidence, not the noise. Don't make the same mistake twice in one day." He stepped up , just shy of being in between them. The guy was taller and broader than himself, but Jago was use to that. He knew he was faster and very well trained in using their weight against them. "So, you want to get payback for losing? I'm right here." He spread his hands in a welcoming gesture. The Riolu moved around to the side of Jago that would put his closest to the fire type. He looked down at her, giving a reassuring smile and wink.

Between the unexpected loss, obnoxious barking, foul-mouthed female who wouldn't be cowed by his posturing, and now the original source of his bad-mood standing there with his arms spread and that Arceus-damned smirk on his face, the red-faced man had enough. Wanting to wipe the smirk from the teenager's face, he balled a massive fist launched toward his pretty face. In a swift movement, Jago jerked to the side, snatching the man's wrist and pivoting to use the trainer's momentum and size in order to flip him onto his back in the snow. The teen could have just dodged it, but by putting him on his back, he ensured knocking the breath out of him. Maybe it would give him a chance to think. While the jerk was recovering, Jago flashed an apologetic smile to the redhead. "Not trying to steal your thunder. This just had more to do with us than you and your adorable Growlithe. I clean up after myself if it turns out I made a mess."

The sudden appearance of another man - well, Ichigo was almost tempted to call him a boy, given how young he looked - had Ichigo raising an eyebrow. So she’d been right about the guy having just lost, and to somebody who had to still be a teenager to boot. No wonder the guy was in a pissy mood, his pride must have been hurting him something chronic right now. It had a vindictive little smile curling her lips as she relaxed her posture even more, in an almost exaggerated fashion just to further antagonize the guy. Claw-tipped fingers gently scratched at the thick fur behind Nioi’s ears as dark eyes watched the two men square up against each other.

The soft, frightening whines that Nioi had been making quieted with the approach of the other man and his canine companion, ceasing almost completely when said canine companion offered up a reassuring smile in her direction. While she had no doubt her mama could take down anybody, even this mountain of a man, it was always important to wait for back-up to arrive. Now that they had, things would be okay, right?

Ichigo couldn’t help letting her eyes rove over the purple-haired newcomer’s figure, although it was to pick apart his posture more than anything else. The kid obviously knew what he was doing, even with the seemingly relaxed gesture of him spreading his hands, he held himself in a way that told her he could spring into action at a moments notice. Which is exactly what happened when the troublesome man at the centre of this entire debacle threw a punch. She gave a low, impressed whistle when the teen wasted no time putting the man on his back, and threw a glance at Nioi that would roughly translate as, ‘did you see that?’.

Said fire type was watching on in awe, completely enamoured by the display. He was so fast! Ever her mama wasn’t that fast! Her tail, which had become depressingly wagless for the past few minutes, more than made up for it now, flicking back and forth in the snow at a wild pace. “That was so cool!” she exclaimed, wiggling in place to try and contain her excitement. She still wasn’t quite ready to come bounding out from behind her trainer’s legs, after all. “Mom, mom, did you see? It was so cool!”[/i] she added, looking up at her trainer with wide, excited eyes.

Ichigo laughed at Nioi’s enthusiasm and ruffled the fur between her ears a little more fervently, leaving it a little wild looking when she drew her hand away. She turned her attention to Jago next, shrugging off his apology and offering up a grin of her own. “A right gentleman, ain’t ye?” she teased lightly, grinning wider. “No problem at all, darlin’, the show more den made up fer it. Ain’t dat right baby girl?”

Nioi yipped in agreement, finally stepping out from behind Ichigo to stand beside her. She still didn’t move too close to Jago, though, thanks to the winded man in the snow by his feet. She didn’t want to get too close to him. Ichigo, meanwhile, looped her thumbs through her belt loops and shot the man in question a look that could only be called smug. “Ye regrettin’ yer life choices yet, buddy?” She couldn’t help it, she had to get that last dig in, regardless of whether it was helpful or not.

“S’nice to meet ye. ‘M Ichigo, an’ dis is Nioi,” she gestured towards the fire type, who looked up at the sound of her name and bounced excitedly in place, prompting a fond smile from Ichigo before her eyes found Jago’s again. “Ye got a name dere, prince charmin’? Cuz I mean, I can come up wit’ plenty, if dat’s more yer thing.”

While Jago knew this woman was likely too old for him--but not old by any stretch of the imagination, more like she wouldn't be interested in someone six+ years her junior--he couldn't help the heat rising from his core. She was gorgeous, confident, and had a lithe grace. His earlier assessment of her being a fighter felt confirmed as he watched her posture. The warmth touched his cheeks and he knew--and cursed--that they were a deeper shade than when this conversation started as she commented on the show. Hopefully, it would be masked or explained away by the chilled wind.

Kan's smile had broadened at the Growlithe's enthusiasm over Jago's maneuver. Both he and Jago gave a little bow in greeting when the redhead introduced herself and her companion. The heat was just cooling from his cheeks when she offered to come up with some names for him, and the implication--whether or not she meant it--turned the temperature right back up again. The Riolu glanced to his trainer, surprised to find him in this position, since it was usually his smooth talking that had the ladies blushing. The teenager cleared his throat softly. "I'm Jago and this is Kan. You're welcome to use those, but I wouldn't dream of squelching anyone's creativity or freedom of speech if the desire calls to you." He replied with his charming smile.

Aaaand there it was. The fighting type rolled his red eyes and looked down to Nioi. "Are you okay? I know that rude guy was scary." He asked as he squatted down to be more on the fire-type's level. He might as well make friends with the Growlithe. When Jago started flirting, it usually meant they would be there for a little while. Even so, he was curious as to how this would turn out given the fighter's earlier responses to her own teasing.
